20 Jul 2027 - 22 Jul 2027 Chamba Town Ground, Tehri Garhwal Chamba
The Chamba Lakhwar Festival is a traditional celebration in the scenic hill town of Chamba in Tehri Garhwal, situated on the Rishikesh-Gangotri highway at an altitude of about 1,600 metres. The festival marks the end of the agricultural sowing season and expresses gratitude to the mountain deities for their blessings. Traditional Garhwali folk dances such as Thandya, Barada Nati, and Jhumela are performed. Local sports including wrestling (dangal), stone-lifting competitions, and foot races are organized. Community feasting with traditional dishes like Kafuli (spinach curry), Phaanu (lentil dish), and Arsa (sweet) brings the community together. The festival offers stunning views of the Himalayan peaks and the New Tehri Dam reservoir.
