Ganga Dussehra is celebrated on the Dashami (tenth day) of the Shukla Paksha of Jyeshtha month. According to Hindu mythology, this is the day Goddess Ganga descended from heaven to Earth. In Haridwar, the celebrations are particularly grand with thousands of devotees gathering at Har Ki Pauri. Special Ganga Aarti, deep daan (lamp offerings), and pujas are performed. It is believed that bathing in the Ganges on this day washes away ten sins (Dasha-hara). The ghats are illuminated with thousands of earthen lamps creating a mesmerizing sight.
