Guru Ram Rai Darbar Sahib, Dehradun Dehradun
The Jhanda Fair (Flag Fair) is one of the most popular and historic fairs of Dehradun, held annually at the Guru Ram Rai Darbar Sahib in the heart of the city. The five-day fair commemorates the arrival of Guru Ram Rai (eldest son of the seventh Sikh Guru, Guru Har Rai) in the Doon Valley in 1676. The fair's highlight is the ceremonial replacement of the flag (Jhanda) atop the Darbar. The old flag is lowered and a new one raised amidst chanting and prayers. The fair attracts lakhs of visitors from across Uttarakhand and neighbouring states. Stalls selling handicrafts, food, clothing, and household items line the streets. Cultural performances, wrestling matches, and amusement rides add to the festive atmosphere.
