Munsiyari Town Ground Munsiyari
The Munsiyari Tribal Heritage Festival celebrates the rich cultural traditions of the Bhotiya and Shauka tribal communities living in the high-altitude border regions of Pithoragarh district. Munsiyari, nestled at the base of the magnificent Panchachuli peaks (5 peaks ranging from 6,334m to 6,904m), serves as the gateway to the Johar Valley and the ancient Indo-Tibet trade route. The festival features traditional Bhotiya dances, weaving demonstrations of the famous Ringal (bamboo) and wool crafts, and displays of traditional medicinal herb knowledge. Local delicacies including Tibetan-influenced foods like thukpa, momos, and butter tea are served alongside Kumaoni cuisine. Stories and songs about the historic trade expeditions across the Himalayan passes are shared.
