Nanda Devi Fair Almora

The Nanda Devi Fair in Almora is held annually around Bhadrapad Shukla Ashtami (August-September) at the ancient Nanda Devi Temple in the heart of Almora town. The five-day fair begins with the ceremonial bath and decoration of the goddess's idol. Colourful processions with decorated rath (chariots) pass through the ancient bazaars of Almora - Lala Bazaar and Chowk Bazaar. Traditional Kumaoni dance troupes perform Chholiya (sword dance), Jhora, and Chapeli. The fair grounds feature rides, food stalls with local delicacies like Bal Mithai, Singori, and Dubuk, and handicraft exhibitions. On the final day, a grand procession escorts the goddess to the river for the ceremonial visarjan.
