Nanda Devi Mahotsav Nainital

Nanda Devi Mahotsav is a significant five-day festival celebrated in Nainital in honour of Goddess Nanda Devi, the patron deity of the Kumaon region. Held in September around Nanda Ashtami, the festival begins with the installation of the goddess's idol at the historic Nanda Devi Temple near Naina Devi. Grand processions (jat yatra) wind through the streets of Nainital with decorated floats, folk music ensembles, and traditional dance troupes. The highlight is the final day when the idol is ceremonially immersed in Naini Lake. The festival also features cultural programs, handicraft exhibitions, and food fairs. It is one of the most colourful celebrations in the Kumaon hills.
