Tapkeshwar Fair

The Tapkeshwar Fair is held annually at the famous Tapkeshwar Mahadev Temple in Garhi Cantt, Dehradun on the occasion of Maha Shivratri. The temple is a natural limestone cave where water drops continuously fall on the Shivling from the cave ceiling - giving it the name "Tapkeshwar" (dripping god). During the fair, thousands of devotees visit to offer prayers and pour milk on the Shivling. The surrounding area along the Asan river transforms into a vibrant fairground with food stalls, handicraft shops, games, and cultural performances. Traditional Garhwali music and bhajans fill the air. The fair typically runs for three days around Shivratri.
